Top things to do in Maui, Hawaii
Hello again readers 👋
Following my food guide in Maui/Oahu, here're the top things we did in Maui (based on our preference), in no particular order. Enjoy ~
Halaekala national park summit
This is probably one of my fav things to do in Maui - the sunrise view was so AMAZING 💛
Go online to make reservations for entry/parking to view the sunrise. Book EARLY and remember to check the sunrise timing for that day!

Ho'okipa lookout - near Paia town
Road to Hana
Not a great journey for someone with motion sickness & requires great driving skills 😏; otherwise many MANY beautiful waterfalls along the way!
Na’ili’ili haele waterfall / Bamboo forest (mile #6.7)
1st fall was easy to get to, but the 2nd one requires some climbing - the waterfall was gorgeous though (photo below):
Road to hana - Rainbow Eucalyptus tree
Road to hana - Upper Waikani falls/3 bears (mile #19)
Trail that leads down to base of waterfall located on far side of the bridge, really slippery!
Road to hana - Wainapanapa state park (mile #32)
Black sand beach - because we camped there (reserve online), we managed to catch the sunrise 💓
Small cave located at the right side of the beach:
We took a short hike to the other side, path is really rocky though.
Red sand beach - this is just a short drive down from Wainapanapa state park, get directions
Note: park at the end of Uakea rd, walk across the Hana community center field look for a tiny dirt trail on the right side.
Road to hana - Wailau falls (mile #44.8)
We stopped by so many falls on Road to hana that I'm kind of lost what're the names of each falls 😂 This one's really easy to as it's best viewed from the bridge:
could still get closer if you want to 😎
Road to hana - Pipiwai trail (mile #42)
Be prepared for a long hike, Round trip is around 4miles, some rocky and muddy path. You'll pass by the first Makahiku falls, a really big banyan tree, just keep walking & finally be greeted with the beautiful bamboo forest & majestic Waimoku falls! More info here
South Maui
Makena landing point - snorkelling
Water was really clear given that there was a tropical storm coming during the time that we were there. Also saw lots of turtles, in the water & on the shore 🐢
Note: We also tried La perouse bay (having read that its one of the best snorkelling place in Maui), however the waves were too HUGE & it was too dangerous to get out there given the rocks on shore. Refer to bossfrog best snorkelling sites in Maui guide for more details!
Big beach/ little beach
Little beach is all the way at the end of big beach, a short climb to get there (didnt take a photo cause its a nudist beach) - this photo was taken at the top otw to little beach:
West Maui
Lahaina town / Old banyan tree/ Heritage Museum
Nice town to explore with 3 museums (only the heritage museum is free) - Directions
The amazing Banyan tree
Nakelele blowhole
Take a short hike down right near the blowhole, the view is awesome!
Olivine pools
This place is rather hard to get to, so be prepared to hike & be v careful of the waves coming into the pool; do not get out too far. Directions
Be rewarded with the best view once you get down there:
Hope you enjoy the mini guide and stay tuned for Oahu ...
Have a blast & happy travels 💗
